False Spring / False Land is a series of three free standing structures composed of found, ready-made parts and store bought materials. Inspired by a long artist residency stay on an oil tanker (Owner’s Cabin Artist Residency), the artist attempts to explore the notion of mirage at sea: an isolated environment and the endless, empty horizon become fertile ground for delusion and projection. The optical materials (magnifying sheet, prism, spectacle lens, lenticular prints) are in line with the artist’s interested in mechanic of sight, distortions, and the act of looking. The nautical motifs (mast, sail, water) are referencing the location of the warehouse’s past as a ship repair yard.
